In August of 1881, Peter and Elizabeth Maus and their five children left their home country of Germany and arrived In New York City in search of greener pastures. They took advantage of the recently built railroads, which led them to the central Arkansas town of Atkins, where they settled and became a farming family. In 1902, Peter’s son John Mathias Maus married Katherine Berkemeyer and together they were able to start their own general mercantile store in Atkins. The couple had nine children together, and John ran the mercantile store with his brother-in-law Joseph until the early 1940’s when they became a John Deere equipment dealer. In 1944 the store became a full-line John Deere dealership, and it was shortly after that the two businessmen decided to separate the mercantile store and Deere dealership. John Mathias sent his son, John Bernard, and Carl Berkemeyer to Morrilton, Arkansas to start up the company. Maus Implement was located on the west end of Morrilton, and it stayed there until a new location was chosen in 1996 where it remains today. In 2004 Maus Implement expanded to include a second location in Russellville, Arkansas. A third location in Damascus, Arkansas was added in 2012 and these locations are where the company currently operates. Maus Implement has aided decades of farmers in their agricultural practices, and over the years has seen changes from being a predominantly cotton and soybean implement dealer, to being a hay and poultry equipment dealer, to most recently accommodating the surge in the market for compact utility tractors. These changes have allowed us to grow and learn with our customers and surroundings to provide the highest quality experience to those who do business with us. Maus Implement is the last remaining family owned and operated John Deere dealership in the state, with five generations of Maus' having served farmers. In 2019 we will celebrate our 75th anniversary of being a Deere dealer: the oldest in Arkansas. We here at Maus Implement are proud to serve the farmers as well as all of our customers, and we hope that we may continue to for years to come. The story behind our history would be much shorter were it not for you, the customer. We thank you.
